Odd One Out / Sentence Elimination

Odd One Out (also called Sentence Elimination or “misfit” sentence) requires choosing the sentence that doesn’t fit in a set of 4–5 sentences.

Frequency in CAT (2017–2023):

• CAT 2017–2018: 3 questions per slot
• CAT 2019–2021: ~2 questions per slot
• CAT 2022: 0 questions (replaced by para-completion)
• CAT 2023: 2 questions in some slots (e.g., Slot 2 had Q19 and Q20)

Key Insights:

• Usually non-MCQ (TITA) format.
• A familiar VARC question type, though absent in 2022 due to a pattern change.
• As of official data through 2024, the total odd-one-out questions per paper range from 0 to 3, depending on the year.
