Fill-in-the-Blanks (FIB) Questions

Fill-in-the-blanks (FIB) questions, where you complete a sentence with the correct word or phrase, were once common in older CAT exams.

Observations from CAT 2017–2024:

• No direct FIB or vocabulary questions appeared in any official CAT papers during this period.
• Modern VARC focuses on comprehension and logic (RC, jumbles, etc.).
• CAT 2017–2021: 0 FIB questions; all VA was about arranging or summarizing sentences.
• CAT 2022–2023: Likewise, no blanks to fill.

Key Insights:

• 0 questions from 2017–2024 were of the FIB type.
• While improving vocabulary is helpful for RC understanding, you will not encounter standalone FIB questions in these years’ CAT papers.
