- Which entities does the question actually name? Not the whole cast, just the specific people, days, categories or values it mentions.
- How many given constraints touch only those entities? Scan the clue list once, keeping only the ones mentioning those names fewer than the full list is often all you need.
- Does the answer depend on where everyone else ends up? If not and the named entities are already pinned down, you have your answer without touching the rest of the set.
A sub question that survives all three checks with a short list is rare in easy sets and common in sets built to reward this kind of reading.

A scheduling set: six people, six clues, one answer from two
Take a familiar shape. Six colleagues, Rhea, Kabir, Meera, Arjun, Sana and Dev are rostered onto a support desk, one person a day, that is Monday through Saturday.
Six conditions pin the whole roster down:
- Kabir works two days before Sana.
- Meera does not work on Monday or Saturday.
- Exactly one person works between Arjun and Dev.
- Sana works earlier in the week than Dev.
- Rhea works immediately after Meera.
- Arjun does not work on Wednesday.
Now say one sub-question asks: on which day does Rhea work, if Meera works on Tuesday? Only two of those six conditions ever mention Rhea or Meera, clue 2 which rules out Monday and Saturday for Meera and clue 5 which places Rhea immediately after her. Meera on Tuesday plus clue 5 gives Rhea on Wednesday, instantly. Clues 1, 3, 4, and 6 are entirely about Kabir, Sana, Arjun and Dev, people this question never mentions. Solving the long way would answer it too, just slower.
A distribution set: four campaigns, six clues, one number from two
A company splits a marketing budget across four campaigns, Print, Digital, TV and Radio, over four quarters with six clues governing how the totals fall into place.
A sub question asks only for Digital's Q3 spend. If one clue gives Digital's Q1 spend directly and a second states that Q3 spend is exactly double the Q1 figure, the calculation is already finished the other four clues, governing Print, TV and Radio might never enter it at all.
Reading a set like this for real
This only pays off if the habit shapes how you open a set, not how you think about it afterward. Skim all the sub-questions before placing a single entity (fifteen seconds is usually enough), and note which names or categories each one mentions.
