CMAT 2027: Notification Awaited, Expected Dates and Prep

CMAT is the national level management entrance test that many colleges accept, and its 2027 cycle has not formally started. As of the page we read, last updated on 22 October 2026, the National Testing Agency had not announced the official notification. Everything you see about dates is therefore expected and not confirmed.
This guide separates what is expected from what is confirmed, gives the pattern as third parties describe it, and shows how to prepare while you wait. The source is mainly a Careers360 article, and it contradicts itself in one place on the exam month, which we point out below. Confirm every date on the official NTA site once the notice is out.
CMAT overlaps strongly with CAT preparation, so build the shared parts first in the CAT study planner, and add the new parts later.
- The official CMAT 2027 notification had not been announced in the source we read, which was last updated on 22 October 2026.
- Expected registration is from the third week of October to the third week of November 2026, but this is unconfirmed.
- The exam month is unclear: one part of the source says January 2027 and another lists 7 February 2027.
- The expected pattern is 100 questions of 400 marks across five sections of 20 questions each, with plus 4 for correct and minus 1 for wrong.
- Prepare the sections that overlap with CAT first, then add general awareness and innovation and entrepreneurship.
What Is Confirmed and What Is Not
The CMAT is conducted by the National Testing Agency. According to Careers360, on a page last updated on 22 October 2026, the agency had not announced the 2027 notification. We could not open the NTA site in this session, and a notice may have appeared since. Check the official site, and trust it over any article, including this one.
Because the notification is awaited, every date is expected. Third party sites derive them from earlier cycles. The pattern of previous years suggests that registration opens in the autumn and the exam falls in the new year, but that is a habit and not a rule. Some years have moved.
Be cautious with fees and eligibility for the same reason. The figures below are approximate and based on the previous cycle. The official notice will list the exact amounts and conditions.
Expected Dates
The source lists the registration start as the third week of October 2026 and the last date as the third week of November 2026. The fee payment deadline is expected in the fourth week of November, and the correction window in the last week of November. Since the notification is still awaited, registration may not even have opened. Do not assume it has.
For the exam date, the source is inconsistent. A table lists 7 February 2027, while the FAQ and eligibility sections say January 2027. We cannot tell which is right. The safest approach is to plan for the exam to fall between January and early February, and to adjust when the notice arrives.
The city intimation slip, the admit card, the answer key and the result dates have not been announced. Do not accept dates for these that you cannot trace to the official site. A page that gives a specific date for something the agency has not announced is guessing.
| Item | Expected (unconfirmed) | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Notification | Awaited from NTA | Not announced in the source read |
| Registration starts | Third week of October 2026 | May not have opened yet |
| Registration closes | Third week of November 2026 | Plan for a window of about a month |
| Correction window | Last week of November 2026 | Expected |
| Exam | January 2027, or 7 February 2027 | The source contradicts itself |
Treating a date in a table as final because it looks specific. A specific date on a third party page is still a guess if the agency has not published it. Write expected dates in pencil on your calendar, and ink them in only after the official notice.
The Expected Pattern
The source describes the expected pattern as the same as the previous year. The paper has 100 questions and 400 marks, divided into five sections of 20 questions each, worth 80 marks each. The sections are Quantitative Techniques and Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning, Language Comprehension, General Awareness, and Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
Marking is plus 4 for each correct answer and minus 1 for each wrong answer, with no deduction for unattempted questions. The source does not state the duration, so check the official notice. Remember that this is a different scheme from CAT, where an MCQ earns plus 3 and a wrong answer costs minus 1, and typed answers carry no negative marking.
The mark scheme changes how you handle doubtful questions. At plus 4 and minus 1, a guess has a better expected value than in CAT, if you can eliminate even one option. That does not mean guessing blindly. It means your risk calculation shifts, and you should test it in mocks.
The Pattern Check
- Find the official information brochure when it is released.
- Compare the sections, marks and duration with the expected pattern above.
- Note any change in marking, and update your mock settings.
- Delete the expected pattern from your notes once the brochure confirms or corrects it.
Eligibility and Fee, as Expected
The source expects no age limit and a requirement of a bachelor degree from a recognised university or institute. Final year students are expected to be allowed to apply if their results are declared before the 2027-29 academic year begins. The official notice will define the exact condition and the dates.
On the fee, the source says that approximately Rs 2,500 is charged to General male candidates and about Rs 1,250 to other listed categories. These are approximate. Verify the amounts on the official portal, and pay only there.
If you are a final year student, note the result condition. It matters if your results come late in the year. Our guide on the three folder document system helps you keep the papers you will need.
- Use your CAT mocks to build the quantitative, data interpretation, logic and language parts.
- Add a weekly slot for general awareness and for innovation and entrepreneurship.
- Take one full CMAT style paper once the pattern is confirmed.
Plan Around Two Tests
Place CAT, CMAT and your application tasks on one calendar and update it as notices arrive.
Build My PlanHow to Prepare While You Wait
Most of CMAT preparation is CAT preparation. The quantitative and data interpretation section, the logical reasoning section and the language comprehension section map onto what you already practise. If you are preparing for CAT, you are most of the way there for three of the five sections.
The two sections that are less familiar are general awareness and innovation and entrepreneurship. General awareness draws on current events and static knowledge, and it rewards steady reading over time. The innovation and entrepreneurship section tests ideas about business, start ups and new ventures. Both are best handled with a short, regular habit and not a last minute rush.
In the weeks before CAT, protect your CAT preparation. Add only light general awareness reading. After CAT, shift attention to CMAT with mocks in the new pattern. Our guide on what to track in current affairs for GD and PI 2027 gives a list of topics that overlap with general awareness.
Building the General Awareness Habit
General awareness is the part many CAT-focused aspirants have not practised. The efficient way to build it is a small daily habit. Read one good news summary a day, for about ten minutes, and note three or four facts in a notebook: a policy, a business event, a person in the news, an index or an award. Review the notebook once a week.
Add a short static knowledge list as well. Business terms, institutions, major government schemes and recent economic data come up often in such papers. Do not try to cover everything. A modest, regular habit beats a sudden push in the last week, and the facts stay with you longer.
For the innovation and entrepreneurship section, read about how new ventures are formed and funded, and keep a few real examples of start ups and what problem each solved. The questions are likely to test ideas and judgement, and not trivia, so understanding how a business idea is evaluated is more useful than memorising names.
How to Read Date Pages While You Wait
Many sites will publish dates for CMAT 2027 in the coming weeks. Some will be right, and some will repeat last year. A few habits help you tell them apart. Look for a link to the official notice. Look for the date of the last update. Check whether the page marks dates as expected or confirmed.
If two pages disagree, as the single page we read did with itself, assume neither is settled. Do not average them, and do not choose the one you prefer. Wait for the agency. The cost of waiting is small, since your preparation does not depend on the exact date, and the cost of acting on a wrong date can be a missed registration.
Set a reminder to check the official site once a week. That takes two minutes. When the notice arrives, copy the dates into your planner, delete the expected ones, and note the date on which you checked.
A Simple Plan for the Gap
Until CAT, spend most of your time on CAT sections. Add two or three short sessions a week of about 20 minutes on general awareness, such as reading a news summary and noting five facts. Keep the notes in one notebook.
After CAT, in the first week, take a CMAT style mock with the expected pattern, and treat it as a diagnostic. Look at accuracy by section, and compare the plus 4 and minus 1 scheme with your habits. If you tend to leave questions unattempted, see whether elimination can help.
Over the following weeks, practise one section a day and one full mock a week. By the time the exam is close, you should know your pace in each of the five sections. Our guide on how CAT, XAT, NMAT and SNAP compare can help you decide how many tests to take.
Do not decide how many questions to attempt in advance. Work out, in your mocks, how often your elimination leaves two options and how often you are right. At plus 4 and minus 1, the numbers can support a guess in some cases, but only your data will tell you.
Aspirants who sit several tests do best by keeping a single core of preparation and adding small test specific pieces. Starting a separate full preparation for each test splits time and weakens all of them.
- Have you checked the NTA site for the notification?
- Do you know which dates are expected and which are confirmed?
- Is your CAT preparation protected until the exam?
- Do you have a weekly slot for general awareness?
If you want help deciding how many tests to take, you can talk to a CAT mentor, or share your plan for a strategy review.
